People that I met during my 1A were mostly doing 1A so I didn't encounter anyone doing stage 2. I did have someone that told me there would be mostly non-tech, but he did it a year ago, and the letter that I received stated that it was a "Technical and personal interview". in stage 1b...
I was thinking that the schedule of the interview might've changed so I decided to study hard on technical stuff . Also I was browsing through this thread and barely saw people post stuff about 1b until recently there was a couple of them.

Speculations. They never say what was not up to standards.

I know I passed the Raven test as it wasnt that difficult so that leaves the Interview and CPP.

If I failed the Interview, fine, since I have almost no experience for interviews. They probably got a sub-par impression of me. That is something that I can improve on. Likewise for everyone else.

Personality takes a lot of conscious effort to change and even then, changing the sub-conscious can be near impossible. Attempting every 12months I guess is worthwhile if one lives in SEA area, but is quite prohibitive for others half-way around the world.

Letting the candidate know personality was not a fit would save them the time and effort from travelling to HK annually. Maybe a few year's time instead so personality can change.

I would really appreciate some feedback on how useful their questions are and when did you use them?

I think I am more worried about the aptitude test than the technical knowledge test. I did search about it on this thread but I want to hear some recent response on whether studying the JKI booklet would be suffice for passing the technical test (I have absolutely no flying knowledge with a degree in economic which I know is irrelevant)

Btw anyone scheduled for the 1A test on feb 9?

How useful is it. I read some of the sample technical question on the page. They seems much more in depth thAn the content on the JKI booklet.

Would you guys think the technical or compass part would be more difficult for me?

Sorry forgot to recap. I will be writing the initial A test and I have absolutely zero knowledge in aviation. I have a degree in economics (does not relate to aviation in anyway). I've always wanted to pursuit a career in aviation but did not seem feasible until recently.

Btw anyone writing the initial A on feb 9?

for those who are going to have 1a or 1b
i will rather suggest you to save the time and study more as you are actually doing everything yourself during these two stages....

its ok if you want to study together but from my experiences most ppl asking to meet up to prepare their 1a or 1b.....disappear right after the interviews....

their hr ppl interview way so many candidates than you can imagine and if you are just try to pass the test with throwing all the info into your brain right before the interview....you will probably receive the decline email as soon as you leave the cx building...

For international applicants, (contact address is out of hk) they will probably send you a rough schedule for the whole interview progress, but don't be too rely on that.
I just had my 1a last Thursday and just got the invitation for 1b in feb, so it took them sometime to arrange this time.

One thing I'm sure is, they let failed candidates know fairly quickly

Does the JKI fully cover the technical test?

Im more worried about the compass test which involves some math and psychics right? i am quite rusty on those, do they expect u to memorize any formula if so which ones?
Any question u rmb from the compass test?

And how long did it take them to inform u of the 1B in feb.

well mate, don't worry too much about the compass of cathay, I don't think there are too many people failing the compass. Math were easy, any necessary formula or unit conversion unit would be provided, just rmb the formula for ohm's law :P during the math section in compass, finish the first few questions a bit faster as those appear later in the sequence would be a bit more demanding but wouldnt be too difficult.

For JKI, the booklet itself should be able to get you a pass, if you have studied thoroughly. what i mean by thoroughly is to memorise any bits and bobs in the booklet. Global Meteorology is the topic which you want to dig a bit deeper than JKI. And if you are engineering major or have been preparing this interview for quite sometimes, you will find that quite a few pieces of information inside the booklet are actually contradictory to some of the textbooks out there, but those ambiguous theories won't be tested.

My advice is, read and memorise all of the content in JKI and study a bit for company background, then you should be through for 1a, and as soon as you have finished 1a, you should be preparing for 1b

You mentioned that some content on the JKi are contradictary from other content. I think I might have a problem Cuz I find the JKI kind of difficult to understand so I googled many of the topics myself. Will that throw me off completely?

Any recommendation on how to prep for the compass?

I m an international applicant, and with the invitation email I got for 1a, it tells me the date I will be having for 1b if I passed 1a. My 1a is on 9th February and 1b on 16th February.

They refer to the interview stages for the cadet program. The whole process is:
Stage 1a
Stage 1b
Stage 2
Stage 3
Flight grading

I'm not sure if it is the same or not for AE or TT

For the stage 2, do anyone know if the followings are still included or could anyone share some details on it?

Group exercise (definitely yes), Flight Planning assessment (definitely yes), Professional Profile (=CPP personality test in stage 1b?), Aptitude test, and interview

Sorry for asking again but anyone who have recently completed the stage 2 can help clarify if the below parts are still included? or they have changed the assessments contents already?

-Professional Profile , Aptitude test (apt test again?) , and interview (hr + pilot in stage 2?)

When I did 1a. Everyone in my 'group' already had their 1b tentatively scheduled 2 days later because we were living outside HK.
Ones who are living in HK arent constraint so 1b would not be scheduled when they invite you for 1a.

Like mast000 said, there's really no point getting together for 1a/1b unless you really need the moral support. It's pretty much just studying for a test (JKI/Knowledge test).

There are sites that list what the COMPASS test has. It's really testing high school knowledge (math and sci) and the innate skills required for flying (multi tasking/hand-eye coord/short term memory/instrument readings/etc).
If you're a decent gamer and competent in math/sci, I'd focus more on aviation knowledge instead....or the 1b interview.
