2008 Alpha

Yes its true that the 2008 alpha batch may start around october this year because of the delays of the previous batch according to Sir Narmon. They said that no worry cause they will invite all qualified applicants for the assessment.

2008 alpha

The process will surely start with an orientation. They will give you an overview of what you can expect to go through. Know your weaknesses so that you know what you need to improve on. Be physically prepared for this program, this will make life easier for you. Remember, time management is key. Good luck!

PAL people really think they own philippine aviation. what bunch of posers. Good thing the Av school doesn't fly when the crosswinds are more than 5 kts. otherwise everyone will go cross country to do pattern work in Lingayen........

Orientation

anansi_boy,

Would you know when the orientation will take place for 2008 alpha?

How long does the "screening" process usually last before they begin with training?

If some of the posters here in this thread are correct and PAL is planning on an October start for training, then when would it be ideal to begin the process (i.e. with the orientation)?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to figure out / come up with some kind of timeline.

9ball,

its actually 10kts crosswind max.. unless your favorite SFID (supervising flight instructor for the day) declares "KILLER WINDs". go figure.

goat,

a few weeks ago JM, a PAL flight instructor left to join cebu pacific, during that time they were already flying at the maximum flight instructor to pilot trainee ratio with their current load. No career advancement, no program, low pay, nobody in the pipeline to replace you as you set your sights on the jets after paying your dues and living your share of purgatory (its not an easy job you know), low morale and broken promises by management are historically the reasons why PAL FIs leave and will be leaving soon.

Training and Development Department has sent an SOS to Flight Operations to "LOAN" former flight instructors currently flying the LINE. that is if they are willing to volunteer and this is only a stop gap measure as there really is nobody willing or crazy enough to stay there for the long term.

for now, shiny new Cessna 172s sitting at the ramp with or without those killer winds.

so, for your AO class of 2008? wish HARD.. really HARD... cross all your fingers and all your toes...

Need Some Sound Advise

Guys,

I'm here because I want to pursue my childhood dream and become a pilot. But I don't know sh**! I know for a fact that this maybe too late to jump start a new career... whatever the case maybe, I still want to become a pilot and possibly explore the job opportunities this great industry has to offer. I'm currently enrolled in the Private Pilot Ground Course. Thing is, is this course necessary say I want to become a commercial pilot in the future?

To get a better grasp of my current dilemna, I am a working professional and is taking advantage of the Educational Assistance Program that my company offers. Instead of taking an MA, I opted to take a course that would lead to my ambition. Another thing is, if this will soon be a career and would entail me to invest (I've read in several forums millions), then I sure would want to invest it correctly. Money is money... It's hard to part with your savings more so if it's hard earned.

Any advise is appreciated.

YES and YES and YES!!!

YES it is that expensive now to go into flight training and if your really into it then the expense wont matter.the question is are you ready to face the challenge.remember if you want quality go for the best school not those over night flying schools back there in the Philippines that care only for money..spend what your money is worth.and take advantage of all the knowledge you could absorb..
YES it is a REQUIREMENT for you to go through PRIVATE PILOT GROUND SCHOOLING. i remember the old man saying..the best pilot should know his basic roots..and everything is from going through PPL.if you dont know how to take the first step then what more getting to the second.try to be realistic and ask your self.."is this what i want" you will know the answer easily and follow your hearts desire.i was in the same stage eons ago and decided on what i want.this didnt stop what i really love.anyhow before you go enroll on any flight school check their background and track record thou yeah it helps to be coming from a good flight training school but at the end of the day it is your skill and your attitude that will be assessed.
YES aviation industry is a bitter sweet life..you go through the ups and downs like your in your first orientation fight not having the positive control of the aircraft but after a while you will get used to it then you go on a straight and level.remember this..

"the best safety device i an aircraft is a well trained pilot"

good luck!!

try looking at the trend of late 90's where in PAL av was dominated by sons and daughters of PALers and Politics was so in that the whom you know is the admission to be in the academy. how could a simple juan be in the academy with peanuts in his pockets.while you were enjoying your christmas day with your family and having lots of gifts with you while i was waiting table on this cheap fastfood chain doing double shifts. would you offer to wash airplanes be a driver for a captain or even baby sit just to save up to have a flying time.this is what we call determination.i dont have to tell anybody how i got to florida its a long story and a great adventure.just put your feet on the ground and know where you came from.

what about the Florendo's in davao, cojuangco of tarlac, singson of the north, benedicto of bacolod, ilusorio who owns baguio country club, dimaporo of mindanao, lobregat of zamboanga. and a lot more dudes that are filthy rich and are true blooded juan.not those naturalized rich people that you are talking about.

anyhow i have nothing against PAL av the culture is there standards are being practiced and i am proud of it.now its up to you guys to fulfill your dreams and to be the best aviators.good luck!!

hey there zenflyer, smiling goat and rdj05!

i also applied for ao class 2008A, the latest update i got is a tentative start date of october 2008 (as per mr. tirol). if it takes about 3 months from selection/testing to start of classes, then we should expect to be contacted starting now to about august. it's a good idea for us to form a group of some sort so we can gather more info.

am looking forward to meeting all of you, good luck to us all!
