Second interview in Hong Kong

Im just writing to express my gratitude for the people who have answered many of my questions in preparation for the Cathay first interview. I was interviewed in San Francisco at the beginning of August and have now been invited back for a second interview starting Nov. 30th. If anyone else is coming to Hong Kong around that time frame I would be interested in speaking with you. I would also be interested in hearing any other success stories regarding the second interview....the sim ride, tech exam, math test, etc. Once again thanks for all the help.

mpflis,
I was wondering when you applied to Cx? I am very interested in working for Cathay and I'm wondering if you have any tips on getting the initial interview?? Is this a DEFO or DESO interview in August?? Any details would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Hi guys,

here are my questions and program for round two SO.

day 1

-welcome briefing
-licence assesment (lot's of paperwork to hand in, mostly copy's logbook)
-medical (similar to the one you do every 5 years)
_math test and personality test (on computer)
-Hong Kong briefing (with wife / girlfriend)

day 2

-group exercise
-sim briefing (all details will be send to you )
-sim
-interview
-cocktail party

Sim : exactly the profile in the briefing they have or will send you.

interview :

-what are the procedures in your company for a rapid or slow decompressurazation ? ( the helios crash was the week before )
- How does the oxygen system in the 737 work ?
- What do you think could have happened with the helios ?
-What kind of weather radar do you have ?
-What does it do ?
-What are the most important functions on the weather radar ?
-What modes ?
-Tell me about typhoons ?
-How do they form ?
- You are from Europe, why are there no typhoons over there ?
- HK is very sensitive to windshear, what would you do if you had windshear on final ?
- Why don't you change configuration in a windshear escape manouvre ?

Think that was it, if I think of more i'll post it ! Nothing was asked about swept wings etc. In my first interview I got all the CG and vmcg questions.

You did not mention the maths test, have they stopped it already?

yep, sorry , forgot to mention that ! How could I forget.....

There was indeed a math test and a personality test. Both on the computer.

personality test, nothing special, just answer the way you feel.

the math test..... no joke !!! Multiple choice, but with 16 options....

But to make you less worried, I certainly screwed it up completely and got offered the job.

I'll edit post above.

hey bounty thanks for your response about the second interview. Have they given you any idea about a class date yet? Did you prepare in any way ahead of time for the 747-200 sim? I assume given your post you drive a 737, if so, is it steam guage or glass. Well good luck and I hope to hear from you, and see you out on line someday.

mpflis,

No dates yet but an estimate would be april/may 2006 according to HR.

I fly the 737 NG. I did not do any prep on a sim, although I did study the brief very good and did some "dry flying".

good luck and hopefully C U in HK

Hey guys;

Going at the end of November as well for the second interview.

Sent PM to you guys. Would be interested in sharing any info with you and vice versa.

Anyone coming from OZ at this time and want to do a little beer swap - say a couple tins of VB for some Molson?

Good luck to us all!

SingleSingle. Why the hell do you want some VB for?. I think some Coopers Pale Ale would be much more civilised.

Hiya 100%;

Memories of walking from the bottle shop with a case of VB on my shoulder, 30 degrees out, and not a care in the world................

More of just a good-will gesture, although I did enjoy it, just like I enjoyed XXXX, Tooheys, etc.....

Offer still stands for anyone.

Cheers.

Thumbs up

Singlesingle,

how about this - if you make a big batch of "moose milk" for the last night in HK I'll bring the VB..!

Ahhh the memories of a wild "Canada party" from my youth where some of Alberta's finest (especially the lasses) brewed up this concotion. Like getting hit in the head with a sledgehammer wrapped in velvet. Magic!

(One problem though - my 2nd interview isn't until early '06)

Cheers.
