Folks,
I've applied to become a SIA cadet pilot somewhere towards the tail end of July. So far, the website says it is just 'In Review'. It hasn't changed and no updates have been posted.
I just want to know (especially some of you'll who have been successful in reaching the final stage of the interview), when did you apply? And in your own words, if you don't mind, what factor do you think played a role in advancing you up to the last stage of the interview. Were you'll outstanding academics or had an undergrad degree/diploma related to aviation? Absolutely anything will help to quench my doubt.
Thank you.

Hi all,
Is the interview call based on nationality (only for Singaporeans) or is it open for other nationals too ??
Kindly respond only if it is authentic news.
TIA.

Stumbled on this website while researching interview questions. So far the info here has been great!
Got invited to first interview today. Date scheduled for 12 October.
Just wondering, what should I wear to the interview? Do I have to wear a suit+tie?
Cheers!

Dear aspirants, applicants & interviewees,
Good day! As promised few weeks ago, here is a snapshot of the processes (based on my personal progress):
Online applicationnd of April
Preliminary iv: Middle of August
Aptitude: Early September
Final iv & Tea-party: End of September
Medical check-up: End of September
Prelim iv: Questions on geography, aircraft comparison, SIA organisation facts, personal life questions, aircraft technical questions and any question based on the CV details submitted (i.e. education, school, career so far etc.)
Aptitude: 12 or so computerised test modules, alike mini games. The tests are aimed to test memory, attention to detail, instruction adherence, basic compass attitude. From my appreciation of the tests, no prior experience is required in order to perform the tests. The tests are basically to determine aptitude (appropriate attitude) of an interviewee. Keep cool, read instructions very carefully and all should be good! Avid gamers may settle into the atmosphere faster, during the tests
Final iv: Written test, followed by the final interview (3 senior management Captains, 1 Ground Manager). Finally, the tea-party (no alcohol, so calm your horses, tea, coffee and muffins. Questions may vary according to candidates profile. My questions were themed towards leadership, personal questions, basic technical (i.e. FBW, auto-pilot systems etc.). In my view, the questions are aimed at how one comes up with an answer (thinking process, rationale for the answer, methodology) rather than the answer in itself. At the tea-party, as is with any social party - ethics, respect another, have honest questions, have a conversation. It is not a speed dating session, therefore my advise would be not to 'butterfly' - moving from one person to the other without ever having a real conversation. Be POSITIVE when asking questions (from my point of view).
Medical: Medical checks as required by CAAS and SIA.
Finally, always be prepared - 'PRIOR PLANNING AND PREPARATION PREVENTS POOR PERFORMANCE' (memorise the mantra) and live it! Interview etiquette is important, communication (clear, concise and direct) and be confident yet humble. I believe there are many online sources available to guide one as such. Know 'why, what, when and how' and be the devil's advocate to your own answers while preparing. Be balanced, have an opinion, base your answers on facts, do not ever speculate, be honest (if you don't know, say you don't know) and BE POSITIVE!
Note: The process, progress rate and opinion on the stages may differ as to applicant - therefore please treat this as a my 'personal experience sharing'. Every individual has their own sense of appreciation and style. Keep it Real, be Cool and be Prepared! Cheers and all the best.

Even though you can submit the application successfully, the status will be 'In Review' forever.
The nationality do matter here. If you are a Singaporean/PR, you may get notification for preliminary interview with 1 or 2 months provided you meet all the requirements.
For Indians, SIA had this programme opened in 2011 only and it was closed then.
Further they are not having any future plans to widen the nationalities, but if they do Indians will be the first to be considered.

Nope.
No International candidate shall be considered.
Currently only Ab Initio Cadet Pilot Programme (Singapore) and Ab Initio Cadet Pilot Programme (Malaysia), which means Singaporeans and Malaysians only.
I got this information from a SIA staff who is a Captain Line Instructor Pilot on A380.

As per SIA the country which is mentioned in parenthesis are the one and only to be considered.
Look at this; Ab Initio Cadet Pilot Programme (Singapore) means its only for Singapore. Similarly, Ab Initio Cadet Pilot (Malaysia) means Malaysia only.
Unless your country is not mentioned; well I hope you got my point.
Further, your location is given as Hong Kong.....So, Why don't you try for Cathay Pacific or Cathay Dragon ?
They have the same sponsored programmes. Go for those and get your wings.

final interview is different for everyone. my advice is, study your answers in depth. For example, if you say you like flying because of xxxx, make sure you can answer when they drill down on xxxx.

Hi, congrats on getting to the first interview. You can wear a suit + tie but I personally recommend just a formal attire with a tie. (Friday is a dress down day)

Btw I just realized, reading through this forum, most have said that the aptitude test is usually conducted after 2 or so days once the applicant has successfully gone through the first interview? My invitation to the first interview mentioned that I would be proceeding with the aptitude test in the afternoon of the same day should I successfully pass the first interview in the morning. Is that normal?
