To all those joining SFC in the near future:

You do not need to bring that many things to SFC. Most of the stuff that you require will be provided by the College.

Your uniforms will be arranged within days of your arrival, and you should receive your uniforms within 2 weeks. Textbooks and essential stationary will be provided, like calculators, nav rulers.. etc. You may elect to bring in your own calculators if you so wish. Do bring paper to write on, for your own notes.

Living in Seletar, again, most amenities are already provided, like washing machines, TV, fridges... no air-con. You may bring in your own stuff, like laptops or other electrial/electronic appliances if you require them. Otherwise, everything is provided.

You may wish to bring in a bicycle (if you have one) for convenience.

For those with aviation headsets, bring them if you have it. You can use them on your flying training.

As for cooking, your meals are provided, and Jalan Kayu is near if you want supper at night. Hence, there is no need for instant noodles, but light snacks like chocolate and sweets are recommended. This will help you stay awake during class... Another recommendation is a thermos flask for storing coffee / tea / hot drinks. Again, essential to help you stay awake in class... especially after lunch...

Congratulations for those who have joined, and good luck to those going for your interviews.

OBS Lumut

Max and all the others going to OBS Lumut:

You will be searched on arrival at Lumut. You will be required to surrender all your electrical and electronic appliances, which will include your PDAs, handphones, GPS if you have any... You will also be required to surrender your wallets and passports.

Smokers, you will have to surrender your cigarettes. Any food will also be confiscated. So, no chocolates, sweets, instant noodles, canned food... etc.

As mentioned in the briefing package, most items will be provided at Lumut, but you may elect to bring some additional items such as candles, solid fuel, lighters, insect repellent(s), mosquito coils, hydration packs (Camel bags are good), jungle hat (essential if you dun wan your face to be burnt), sun block, hunting / diving knives, disposable water-proof camera, booties... think that's about the stuff you need. Again, most of these items are optional.

Enjoy your time there. Minimal running required, but the expeditions are quite demanding. Leeches will be a HUGE problem. Avoid them if you can, and ALWAYS check when you can. You'll never know where they may end up.

You may want to bring some money over to purchase souvenirs and food en-route to and from the airport. My course ended up at KLIA for a well-deserved beer while waiting for the flight back to Singapore.

Enjoy yourselves at Lumut!

OBS Lumut Part II

The OBS programme has no specific "tests" or "assessments", rather, it is a programme to challenge YOURSELF. Depending what you bring to OBS (I dun mean literally...) you will inevitably get different results when you leave.

I learnt a lot about myself, and what I want to get out of the programme. Again, it is about challenging yourself. It is not the expeditions, or the climbing or the activities that matter. So, go with an open mind. You'll never know what you'll learn out of it. Once again, you should never stop learning. It'll make you a dead pilot.

You guys will probably not see me in WSSL anytime soon, though I may drop by once in a while to see my friends. I'm not very keen on identifying myself here, but suffice to say that I am currently flying on the B777 fleet.

If you've got any questions, I'll try to answer them as well as I can, remember, I was once a cadet like you guys, so I know what you're going through.

Cheers!

Hi guys,

Good luck to those going for their 2nd interviews. Guess what? I've cleared mine, and will be going for medical tomorrow!

For those who attended the 1st interviews (esp the 17 and 18 Nov) and are still waiting for news, dun lose hope. For my 2nd interview, there were 10 of us (8 from 17 Nov AM session, 1 from 17 Nov PM session, 1 had his 1st interview 2 months ago!). So you see, you can still be called up for 2nd interview as long as you have not received any rejection email.

The SIT tests were alright. Think they want to see you participate actively in group work/discussion, and are able to both lead and cooperate with others as a team.

Best of luck to all aspiring pilots!

Hey Trance,

Really sorry to hear that. Are you going to try again?

Is there anyone else here besides who is still waiting and praying?
