quirke,

I do think the purpose of school is to teach one how to learn, regardless of subjects.

Explore all options, even the poly course. When I wrote about exposure, I was referring to the course with Temasek. It is certainly a better option (and wider exposure too) than worrying about cadetship or self-paying for a commercial pilot licence now.

Honestly, (presumably the course is) 3 years is a good tradeoff to find one's career direction. Regardless, make a decision and put in your best.

...clock all the 1500 hours to apply for FO positions instead of becoming a cadet?
Last I checked, SIA does not accept Direct Entry FO (DEFO). I haven't been following this thread, and I don't know if you are working towards flying for SIA. This is for your info only.

With 1500 hrs you are likely to find a place in the right hand seat of one of the LCCs, provided you have the type rating of the aircraft that they operate. But why 1500 hrs? Did the hiring requirements state 1500hrs? Or did you confuse yourself with the 1500hrs required to 'unfreeze' the fATPL? Good luck guys!

What are your friend's qualifications like? Seems like SIA really prefers ex RSAF personnel. I guess your friend must have some outstanding qualifications to get cherry picked?

Smile

I think you guys are speculating too much about how SIA picks their interview candidates. Ex-RSAF trainees have an advantage over others? I dont think so. They won't get chopped if they could fly. I, for one was a choppee too.

The first interview is held on every friday of the month. And the second interview is on every wednesday. The passing rate of the interviews is low and you will be surprised how many applicants you see on your interview day. Despite the low %, the company will try to fill about 8 courses a year to send to OBS/SFC.

If you are not being called up yet, perhaps there are too many applicants to filter through. As long as you meet the bottomline requirements, you will be shortlisted.

Anyway for those who got shortlisted, all the best and study real hard. Be honest, be confident and most importantly, be humble during the interviews.

there isnt a last date for this round. How do i put it? There arent any rounds to begin with. Recruitment has started again and this will be an ongoing thing throughout the year.

There would be a "1st interview" session every friday of the month and there will be a "final interview" session every wednesday.

Theres no cherry picking involved in recruitment. There are tons n tons of applicants to choose from. Whatever results you have gotten in school previously does not matter as long as you meet the minimum requirements. The interviews are all that matter in selecting the future cadet pilots. Same goes for flying experience - even if you have it, it doesnt give you any advantage.
