Hello!
I'm currently 17 years old (my birthday is in January) and just got into a JC through JAE. I'm female and am very very very interested in becoming a commercial pilot.
I'm considering joining SYFC or switching to the Temasek Poly Aviation Management & Services course since they now offer the Aeronautical Option which would allow students to obtain a PPL.
The only ambition i've ever had is actually being a Pilot, but i'm afraid that the odds are against me now. I didnt take Physics for my O levels and i'm very very afraid that it'd be a disadvantage for me.

Hi Quirke,
To address to some of your concerns.
I am not sure about the Physics aspect for SPL or PPL. Correct me if I am wrong but for CPL and ATPL I think you will need phyiscs.
You may want to look at this URL.
Flight Crew Licence
http://www.caas.gov.sg/caasWeb/expor...load/sasp1.pdf
You can try to join SYFC. If they accept you, well you may go thru their PPL selection. I feel that it is a good channel to learn flying especially at you age. Selection can be tough, but once you made it. You can also choose to fly for military too.
The flying experience there can be useful for your future endeavor if you wish to venture into Airlines as a cadet pilot.

I'm not sure what the requirements are with CAAS in regards to having Physics before you can start training (I trained in Australia and have an Australian license), but the level of physics required to understand the concepts taught in CPL /ATPL theory subjects is at a very basic standard. I wouldn't worry too much about that at this stage.
Good luck in pursuing your dream to become a pilot. Where there's a will, there's always a way. PM me if you'd like some advice on career pathways. Mine was non-standard, but I got to where I am by purely persisting with the dream and never giving up.

Hectigol,
Applied a week ago and have not heard anything so far, will there be a notification online if my application has been rejected?
As from my knowledge,
Don worry as long as your online(SIA career site) status stays in "job application" or watever so.
But if shows " rejected", then . the best is to try next round again..
but for ur friend, it is very fast response .. compare to me & some other applicants.

smiling monkey,
Your's was probably one of the more cautiously hopeful message in this thread for a while.
quirke,
Getting yourself exposed early is never a bad thing. PPL might give you a taste of what flying is like; You can then consider whether taking it to the next level, i.e. professionally, is your cup of tea. In the grand scheme of things, if flying is sufficiently important to you, all these are but test of your conviction.
All the best!

drumx, smiling monkey, Jin75, thanks for the replies!
I'm taking Lit Econs Geog & H1 Math in JC now. Not really helpful subjects for flying right? ;_;
Thats why i was wondering if its better to stay in JC with that combi or just go to poly for the licence.
But from what i've read all around, the licence wouldn't make much of a difference unless I self sponsor myself to further upgrade it to CPL & ATPL and then clock all the 1500 hours to apply for FO positions instead of becoming a cadet?
So basically, does a PPL up my chances?
Would LEGM combi affect my chance of getting a interview by SIA?
Drumx,
I think SYFC would be really tough to get in for me. My CCA records weren't that awesome because I was in sports and well, there weren't any leadership points for me to get.
Smiling Monkey,
I think Physics is preferred but not required. But i guess for the SIA cadet thing, they'd probably chuck me out since I dont even have physics D:
Jin75,
Lol, yup. I'd be in hot soup if I were to take the poly course and realise flying is not my cup of tea :o
Seems like SIA is picking interviewees with flying experiences?
