I am just seeking for some advise on my SIA Cadet Pilot application. I went for the first round interview on the 6th of September 2008 and till now I have not gotten any emails on whether or not I am rejected or accepted or anything at all. Can anyone out there give me some advise on what I should do and what might be going on with my interview results???

What makes u resign from previous job? I mean, not just for SIA, but any other job, its never a good thing to resign without an offer, plus in aviation, you have more stringent medical to clear.
sq111

Hi
sq111, I didn't resign since I was the sole proprietor, the only way was to terminate the business. However, the mistake i made was to be over excited, even over confident to a point. Since I was asked to proceed to my medicals, I assumed I was more or less through the door. However, that was far from the truth and I became complacent and allowed my business to slowly deteriorate. (NB: Things are better now. I have awaken from my "fantasy dream world" and manage to put things back on track.)

Were you called for OBS?
lampoon

Hi
lampoon, I have not been called up for OBS, but I did complete and submit my medical in Nov '08. From what I know, the other guys who when for medical have also not received any sort of news from the folks at SIA. I believe that nardnegoy and lijmes have not received any news yet too. Can you guys confirm this?

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words! @ lastdon and grvailshery
Appreciate it...

@SG_Aviator

I see. What is the rationale behind SIA's not following the First-In-First-Out rule when it comes to applicant call up? Those who applied later than you have already returned from OBS.

There seems to be no formula for first in first out rule or any sequence. I have seen people went for interview, clear medical, but end up not being called at all. Also there are others who are called at least 2-4 months behind others.

Sg Aviator

Nov 08 is your medical, still early. Your case not dead yet, I have seen people waited for more than 1 year and still nothing......

I have not been called up for OBS, but I did complete and submit my medical in Nov '08
How is that possible bro?? The maths do not tally...

The most logical thing for an applicant to do is call up and enquire. It's really unfortunate that SIA chooses to close the door on queries, allowing only single sided communication. SIA has to understand the unique circumstances each applicant is subjected to in applying for a cadetship.

Not everyone can be conveniently lumped in the "Don't quit your job until you get call up" category. I was forced to quit because otherwise I would be spending 6-9 months offshore on an oil rig. Sure, I dream of flying but if that is not meant to be, at least I'd like to keep my current job. It's my reality. It's quite unprofessional on SIA's HR part I'd say, despite how the airline is performing in the industry in comparison with other companies.

Worse, there is no information flow coming from the company with respect to the application, prompting applicants to stoop to 'wannabe' level and network in online web forums (thanks to google). Hell I didn't think I'd register to participate in any kind of online forum if it weren't for SIA's arrogance.

Yeah, no reply from SIA as yet. The FASTEST they'll take is 4 weeks from the time of medical to offering you the contract. ST medical will take 1 week for your blood/urine test results to be out & approved by ST-med's docs, another week for submission to CAA for approval, another 2 weeks for SIA to retrieve and HR to tabulate your overall scores before inviting you on as part of the cadet pilot course.

Hey, you guys (nardnegoy & SG_Av) update me if you hear anything. Since our med was on 14 Dec, we can expect news from 14 Jan onwards. As for med results, u can call ST-Med and ask by 1st Jan (which is now).

Well, i distinctly remembered that HR woman at the 2nd interview who kept stressing that even upon clearing your medical, you still are not hired by the company and thus, also told us NOT TO QUIT OUR JOBS or make any plans around the cadet pilot offer. In other words, they did give sufficient warning... at least for my interview group.

There are various reasons as to why you may be called up or not. For some, it may be because of medical reason like post-lasik (requires a 6-mth stabilisation period), to slight hypertension which requires extended monitoring, etc. Once they deem you fit, u get CAA approval, then SIA will begin to consider you.

As for those who've cleared med, I believe HR hires a group of 12-18 candidates according to this point system that tabulates each individual's total score from 1st interview, psychometric test, short essay, 2nd interview, medical etc from a whole pool of potential candidates from past weeks/months. Every company will naturally want to hire the best of the lot. Hence if your score (ie position) falls just below the cut-off score for that particular course, you will be KIV-ed for the next course and all you can do is hope not many surpass your scores & you fall within the course quota.

It can also be because of the present economic climate that causes them to reduce/increase the number of cadets from year to year. An SFC friend of mine mentioned the latest course (143 i think) has only 12 cadets, rather few for a course. So you can see where this is going. Good news is that SIA ain't slowing on their deliveries for their A330s, A340s, A380s & 787s, which means they're prolly gonna require flight-ready pilots in 2 years... esp for the A340s and 787s.

All said, I'm scared s***less of them not offering me the contract.

All the best for the rest of you and Happy New 2009. A new year, new dreams, new hope!

@SG001

oh yes, that's right! its A350 xwb. Thank goodness this isn't the interview. Haha... Thanks for the correction!

@alwaysthere

Thanks for the vote of confidence there mate. You know what guys? As long as all of us here arn't in courses spaced too far apart - not more than 6 mths, we'll see each other all the time at Seletar & in Perth (i think i can be considered a "native" of perth after spending the last 3 years studying there), and i'm sure we'll have a whale of a time!

lijimes, I hold you to that
Perth is a stranger to me since I spent mine in Syd, so you will be hearing lots of questions if it works out for all of us! (albeit early for me though)

Old Traditions Revisted

Greetings to all whom have been supporting this forum and those who have been silently reading and appreciating the vast amount of information here like myself till this very post.

First and foremost, a big thank you to previous contributors be it through answers or valuable questions.

I have come to realise that there used to be many people who would post and update information the very moment they receive notification from SIA irregardless to the outcome religiously. Having to read pages after pages of such posts amidst filtering important information all of which dating up to 4 years ago is indeed a task of its own. But with each update, there brings about new hopes, aspirations and not forgetting curiosity as questions almost seems to follow suit. I ernestly seek to revisit this tradition.

I'm therefore pleased to announce that my humble application sent in last week has been replied yesterday with an interview granted in 3 days times (9th Jan) of which I will definately do my best to prepare despite the short notice. It will definately bring me great joy to hear of more people who shares the same good news and chance in this forum, and to many more that will come.

There's alot more eligible candidates out there, and I might very well trip and fall, but still I hope that we can befriend each other and wish each other all the best. So drop me a note and perhaps we can chat. Cheers~

Pilot Cadet

Hi Guys,

I have submitted my application for pilot cadet(singapore) in 30 Oct, but my workbench has been cleared with no job application applied.

Any advice on what I should do next, I am keen on the application still.

Can I apply for the position again? It seems that my option to apply on the same job is gone.

Regards

hi,

if i remember correctly, there is a email address located at the bottom of the SIA cadet pilot job profile page whereby applicants can send their enquiries to regarding "difficulties encountered".

it's best if you ask the rightful person, i dun think anyone of us here can give u a definitive answer about your problem.

gd luck.
