@ lijmes,

Hey dude not bad, you've intuitively figured it out. It's a good thing you said my nickname and not my real name though, I'd appreciate some hush hush with regards to further details about me. Heh.. who is this anyway? Are you E*i* G** by any chance? Good to know someone from the same final interview day is around.

My take on the final interview

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum/thread so please forgive me for any infraction.

I was in the same interview group as nardnegoy and I'd say the second interview was pretty tough. A general interest in aviation simply isn't enough. The company would've weeded out those without sufficient interest in the first round anyway. To advance beyond the second round, you must really want to be a pilot very badly. I believe you must really really want it. The technical questions are one thing, but what they really source for in the 2nd interview is a candidate that goes beyond wanting to fly, knowing the specs of airplanes and interest in aviation. They're looking at maturity, how one is willing to learn, to make flying their ultimate career and finally, whether you will benefit the company that is SIA (beyond flying tt is).

As for the interview process, i just spent an hour typing it all out in my blog. This is the link:

lijmes . ******** . com

I sure do hope it is of great help to any of you future candidates.

Haha.. I can relate to that cloud nine feeling man. But I also know this's when the real work begins.

And u're pretty hardcore man. I mean, working on Seletar R/T and all, good stuff! Perhaps it's high time I met up with u on a regular basis so that we can get some prep done. Speaking of meeting up, have u applied for the police cert yet? Shall we meet up soon to get it sorted out? When do your uni results come in?

Anyone else from the batch that had their medical on Dec 12th?

Hi gentlemen,
Just another one of the hopefuls waiting for the results of the medical tests conducted on12th Dec '08. I was thinking we might consolidate a list so we can keep in touch of the results and any other issues we might have and/or encounter.

A couple of questions to anyone kind enough to entertain me...

1) Any idea when the next batch is scheduled for OBS?
2) What is the latest batch no. ?

Hope we receive the good news soon. *fingers crossed*

Cheers!

Well I don't know what you mean by "guarantee procedures of SIA" but last I checked with SFC is that it cost about $154K (they normally round it up to $160K) from start to finish. That's the info I got when I called up SFC last month.

Not much but I hope it helped you one way or another.

Cheers!

I think what cad123 is trying to ask is: "Do we need to provide a guarantor as part of the contract agreement". 'Guarantor' is a term we use in this part of the world, I'm not sure about its usage elsewhere. A guarantor is a person that 'guarantees' that the loan is repaid in the event that the contract is breached or the candidate fails to complete the training course.

Cad123, correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I'd like to know the answer too. Cheers.

yeah guys, you'll need to get two guarantors (normally your parents) if i'm not wrong. You'll need to arrange a date with HR to go down and sign it.

@nardnegoy
Hey dude, jus give me a call anytime. Ready when u are. And my uni results are out.

Not sure if this is correct, but I heard that the two guarantors should be outside of your family and must hold respectable occupations.

Thumbs up Guarantors or Sureties

Guarantors (SIA uses the word 'Sureties') can be family or friends. SIA does not normally check on the financial background of the Sureties. If the Cadet Pilot (SIA uses the word 'Trainee') does not live up to his part of the agreement, the penalty (SIA uses the word 'liquidated damages') is S$150,000.00 reducing to zero when at the 7th year as First Officer.

Hi SJETLINER......u have mentioned that ''SIA will not check the financial backround of the guarantor''....... i think this statement is not correct .... if they accept someone as a guarantor then the company should be sure of the persons background (eg: his properties etc..)..or else that person wont be accepted ..... i think so i m correct ... if i m wrong ... pls do correct me ...

Bank Guarantees

i think so a bank guarantee is the best one that a company would accept ............. But i don know how SIA handles when it comes to guarantee???? if any one goes through the process pls do confirm us about this issue......

Guarantor

I acted as guarantor for a cadet pilot (he is now an FO) and I am quite sure SIA has no way of checking my financial situation as I live in a different country. Anyway, the time between giving them my name and signing the agreement was about 3-4 days. Cheers
