For academic qualifications, what ThermalImage wrote is straight from the SIA website, so I guess that's the most updated. But previously (actually as recent as Jul 2005) it was clearly stated in the requirements that a candidate must have the minimum 5 GCE 'O' Level passes or equivalent, and pure science being preferred etc. The SASP2 from CAAS is dated August 2000. Maybe things have changed?

it means that if you have no 'O' levels but have a degree, you are still eligible, even though CAAS says you must have 'O' levels (para 5) but with higher qualifications being considered at their discretion (para 6). So there appears to be some contradictions here.
If someone wants to be a cadet but is in financial straits to such an extent that it cannot be mitigated, then that person has shown poor planning and should not be allowed to be an airline pilot.
Usually the largest financial obligation a young man has is a car
It's nice to see such passion in a pilot, ThermalImage. However, it's not realistic to expect others to feel the same way as you do. By the way, what fleet/batch are you with?

thanx for the encouragement, wow first rd today, cool man.
Just memorize your technical stuff and stay cool when u enter the room. Do not be unsettled or panicky even if they ask u tricky or personal qns early in the interview, just take ur time to organise your thoughts before answering them
Be on time but not too early cuz there will always be leftovers from the AM session. (I was early and my turn was like 1 hr later than scheduled)
Just do your best and let them decide the outcome
Good Luck & hope to see ur favourable posting soon!!!

I am at a loss for words...
Hello guys,
I don't know what to say .... I am at a loss for words....
As some of you guys would know, I went for the interview yesterday afternoon. I said 1 or 2 "I don't know"s and I think for the rest of it I did ok.
I just opened my email inbox and I froze when I saw an email from SIA . My final interview cum tea party is on 7th and 8th March. WOW!! They took less than 24 hours to inform me of my next interview. I'm feeling a little numb now . Numb from the shock.
Talk to you guys again....

Hi people, does anybody knows if having ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) affects your chance of becoming joining the SIA pilot cadet programme? Do you all know of anyone with ADD and still working for SIA as a pilot?
Thanks in advance.

then click on Air Navigation Order, and see paragraph 80:
Physical and Mental Requirements
80. The applicant must not suffer from any disease or disability which could render the applicant likely to become incapacitated in a manner which will affect the performance of his functions in a safe manner.
81. The applicant must not have any established medical history or clinical diagnosis of —
(a) a psychosis;
(b) alcoholism;
(c) drug dependence;
(d) any personality disorder, particularly if such disorder is severe enough to have repeatedly resulted in overt acts; or
(e) a mental abnormality, or neurosis of a significant degree,
which, according to accredited medical conclusion, might render the applicant unable to provide in a safe manner any air traffic service specified in any ratings in his air traffic controller licence or applied for in his application for a licence unless accredited medical conclusion indicates that in special circumstances, the applicant’s failure to meet this requirement is such that the provision of any air traffic service is not likely to jeopardise flight safety.
82. —(1) The applicant must not have any established medical history or clinical diagnosis of any mental abnormality, personality disorder or neurosis which, according to accredited medical conclusion, makes it likely that within 2 years of the medical examination referred to in paragraph 2 (b), the applicant will be unable to provide in a safe manner any air traffic service specified in any ratings in his air traffic controller licence or applied for in his application for a licence.
(2) A history of acute toxic psychosis need not be regarded as disqualifying if the applicant has suffered no permanent impairment.
That means, if you have a history of ADD, you are disqualified. But if you merely think you have ADD, but it's not documented anywhere, then go ahead and try for the Cadet Pilot program. If you can survive 6 months in the Flying College without spacing out, then you are way better than some who fall asleep in class.
If your ADD is not so acute that a bystander just thinks that you are slightly dreamy, you might survive the ATPL program. But if you have acute ADD and have used it as an excuse before (eg during NS), someone might get hold of that history and blow your cover.

I think anything medical, it is up to the doctor doing the check-up to judge. There are lots of circumstances that a lot fall out during the last phase of the process because of even a small ailment. So even if you have a medical problem, just go ahead and apply.
