I was talking to a F5E tech at the open house, and he told me the RSAF would acquire the F35 JSF in the near future! Should be the first RSAF plane with VTOL capabilities..
Anyone got into the cockpits of any of the aircraft? I wanted to get into the 707 but the queue damn long..

I am sorry to say, MFA is nothing now.
CAAS will not considered those freshies out from MFA anymore for licence conversion.
MFA graduates must do full CAAS fATPL course (I mean starting from cold raw sratch, starting from "zero") if they are sponsored by the local airline. Hum...it will be back to square one.
Infact, freshies holding DCA Malaysia licence "tidak pakai" anymore. Singaporeans in Malaysian flying schools might be stuck with licensing issue if they were to return.
Singaporeans know how to fight for housing, changing of water-tanks, crowded MRT, ERP, CPF, Orchard flood, dual education languages and etc....
What about airmen licensing issue?

I applied on 9th May 2011.
On the 15th May 2011, the ad for Cadet Pilots came out in the Recruit section of the straits times.
cruise87 says that he's gotten an interview on the 20th May 2011. Anyone else got invited for 1st round interviews?
My application status is blank right now too. I also applied for the Public Affairs Executive position as an interim job. It was listed as "Application" yesterday but it turned blank as well today.
Anyone have any ideas of what is going on?

The "Blank" Status is a polite way of informing that, you have not been shortlisted for the interviews, based on my experience.. (Note: There are ppl who have had it otherwise)..
Well there is a wide criteria for being shortlisted for interviews (Age, Education,Fitness, Current job, Previous interview performance... etc).. Keep trying till u make it

well in that case, would you be as kind as to advise me on how to proceed should the status just remain blank for the next few months or so? the SQ website has a "Withdraw" button for the job applied, so do I click on that, in order to be able to re-submit my application in future?

For me, The status has remained blank for about two months now..I am not very sure how long it's gonna stay blank... Perhaps someone would like to comment if the status will remain blank for 6 months or so...
Withdrawing the application might help, but then again i have not heard of anyone who tried that. Maybe you could try and share your experience with us...

Hmm.. the airline of the year awards are in.
Qatar's 1st, after having been 3rd (2010), 4th (2009) and 7th (2008) in the previous years.
SQ's 2nd again, having last won the top spot in 2008.
CX is 4th again too, having last won the top spot in 2009.
For a company that's expanding, I'm surprised that Emirates only managed 10th this year, having been 7th in the previous year.
So looks like SQ's strong point is their consistency? Will someone though, please explain to me how Qatar actually managed to trump SQ? how is it that year after year, SQ just seems to fail to reclaim their top spot? haha imagine if this comes out as an interview question.

Well since the Skytrax review is based on feedback by passengers, i believe in-flight experience should be the key criteria (Safety records, Age of Fleet, On time arrivals/departures etc.. are all taken for granted in 6 star airlines)
SIA's trump card IMHO is its Cabin crew and In-flight entertainment.. However there is a clear difference in the SIA in-flight experience between the business and the economy class..
Qatar has won awards for being the best economy class in the world. Since i don't believe all the 18.8 million people who took part in the skytrax survey fly business/first, Qatar is naturally the indefinite winner...
But then again, trends indicate a shift of passenger interest towards budget flights than inflight entertainment.. (Air Asia's success formula, which SQ will soon be adopting)..
Well like Stallone mentioned, Ratings might not be very important, but if you were asked that question, i believe the answer should be somewhere along the lines of finding the delicate balance between Cost, profitability & customer experience..

All the middle eastern airlines have always been trying to emulate SQ's success, be it market share or profitability. It goes without saying that middle eastern airlines such as Qatar would want to rank higher than SQ in any other rankings as its good publicity for their airline.
Rankings are just like examinations. It's merely to quantify overall service satisfaction just like how exams try to quantify how much you know about a certain subject. Airlines could be simply working to top rankings because they see it as a good publicity strategy just like how a student tries to get the best possible marks in all exams so that he or she or could apply for a coveted scholarship. But at the end of the day, does the student really know what's the subject is all about? Does the airline really know what the customers want, value and subconsciously yearn to have?

Hi everyone, I've applied for the position and have been invited for the 1st interview on 8th July, anyone else going on that date?
Been reading the stuff suggested in this thread and from outside sources but I still feel that I don't have enough knowledge on aviation to be really confident. Anyone has any tips on what areas I should cover? I have no prior flight experience by the way. I've mostly already covered these stuff: theory and mechanics of flying, different types of aircraft and engines (esp those in SIA fleet), flight instruments, kept up to date with the news in aviation (esp SIA), other general SIA information about their flights n destinations.

As mentioned on other threads before, SIA does not look for potential rocket scientists or an Einsteins.. The topics you have covered are sufficient to get you through the technical part of the interview..
The key lies in your passion for the job; and how you convey it to the interviewers..

Keep up to date about current affairs as well. Don't be so stuck on wanting to fly that you forget that aviation is very reliant on things happening around the world.
