The "phase advance" is not in our books, but some check airmen still teach it since it's not "prohibited". I do it occasionally. (A320)

I flew the 170/175. The PACKs are indeed very noisy (also very, very effective). We used to turn off the recirc fans sometimes.

Is that so? In my 10+ years of flying into "Air carrier airports" in the US, I can only think of a few ILS approaches where that note was NOT present.

In the FAA realm you can teach ground school with a Ground Instructor certificate (with appropriate ratings). Said certificate doesn't require a medical. EASA probably has some similar provision.
