Madang prang

The over run at madang was caused by a massive overload of the forward freight compartment such that it was not even possible to raise the nose wheel to rotate. The crew did a pretty good job to...

Ceramic fan blades in jets were looking good as I recall until someone thawed out a turkey and flung it in one end for the bird test.

Hugh, So I guess you figure on finding a couple of young blokes to pay for a Dash rating and rush off for a quick Wapanamunda-Moresby-Chimbu then? As for the frills the cheese and crackers made it...

Let410?

The photo in the article does not show an F27 or a F 27-50 (Fokker 50) I suspect that shot is of a Let 410 or similar. Just saying. My last job was on the F27 a great machine but those old Darts are...

F50, S340.

The F50 has the same engine family as the Dash and ATR.
The Saab 340 has GE engines and with 200kt gear speed and 175 flap speed will get down and slow down much better than a Dash.
Interesting to...

Bulolo 206

There is also a similar article mentioning the beach crash as well as a near miss with an ALPNG Dash 8. It seems the aircraft has been all over the place with no flight plans or radio calls so...

Interior panels

Good to see a 185 being brought back to life! I used selkirk fibreglass panels for the interior because the plastic ones just crack all over. But the selkirk ones are very hard to fit. If I did it...

MFX

The Moresby 185 is P2 MFX, an ex MAF machine owned by Mack Lee in the 90s. It is a nice one to fly I took it to Kerama and back once. But very rough interior. Mack ground looped it in the mid 90s and...

nz 185 insurance

I think the nail was hit on the head with the comment that insurance is used as an excuse rather than a reason not to hire them out.
Have added a Pilot on the insurance with about 300 hrs and 20...

Airlink bandits

Fairly sure the engines will be gone anyway. Ran into a Kiwi engineer early in the year and he was off to PNG to grab the engines. Apparantly the airframes were of no interest or value to them and...

EUF trim

Just had a talk with a wise man who used to flight test these things in the dim dark ages. Seems EUF had a manual trim and indeed the electric ones could be a bit dodgy. The Fletcher has a powerful...

Missing Link

Yes some jumpers can clown around and there would be room for them all to go to the back for some reason and create a problem...
