Using Waddington would be totally unacceptable as that nice long runway would be wasted on the F35. Like the carrier idea, but park if a bit further south. It about time RAF Dogger Bank got a runway.

Limitation would be catapult and arrester gear. Unlikely to fire either a Buccaneer or the other thing off a carrier at max weight. Hence the use of Sea Vixen and Buccaneer buddy refueling.

Should replace the symbol on charts for dis-used airfields from a circle with an x in it to a smiley sun. The solar farms make old airfields easier to spot. Long live non GPS navigation! :)
