Only a software engineer but

.....from reading all the excellent info here, is it too simplistic to say that the airframe’s aerodynamic characteristics were a poor fit for the much-more powerful engines?

Thus extra software...

Can’t imagine

Being an engineer involved in the design or testing of this feature. Do we know if there were any significant objections raised prior to implementation? I recall the clashes between contractors and...

What does that flight path tell our experts here?
Elevator issues I guess? Noticing the constant left turn/corkscrews I wondered about rudder, and/or engine thrust....

But what a harrowing ride!...

Also as an engineer , with only 2 AoAs, I’d be reluctant to make any decision based on a disagree. Perhaps a “large” disagree, but in any case, without a majority vote, asking HAL for nose-down Trim...

That allied pilots link

Does not show the article. Only a News archive.
...perhaps only available to members?
Also a google search cannot find a thing. So I guess this emergency directive is....secret? At least to the...

Astonishing

That a critical control feature has apparently been undocumented/unavailable to the pilots flying the MAX.
As a long time software engineer to make these types of changes without notice to users...

China 06

China 6 is a good example of that. AP did it’s best w slowly increasing control surface (rudder IIRC) inputs until it gave up.
Handing over the plane to the pilots in a sharply descending right turn...

Pilots May have thought STS was automatically disabled due to their increased speed. If what has been posted here is correct, prior versions had various activation triggers amongst which was low...

Assuming we have nose down trim

Can the FDR show if the ND trim was driven by STS vs pilots manual input?
If Rostov is to be believed I guess No, hence the fantastic notion that a pilot trimmed Down for 12 seconds on GA at 3,000...

Re STS inputs

...up thread we had a great review of STS which indicated that it had many of its “own” inputs, including pitots on the stabilizer leading edge, hydraulic pressure A v B comparisons, also required AP...

Thanks again Ram

...again, as a SLF it seems a bit odd that there exists the opp to switch AP to B, whilst AP Stab Trim is fixated on A and at best can be disabled. Why not allow AP Stab Trim to use B? I’m sure...

Thanks I am not

I understand that STS has its own separate AS inputs.

however Ran indicated that AP has Stab Trim input as well, and theorized the Cap May have left AP Stab Trim on the faulty side A.
Merely SLF...

Thanks for this detail Rananim - question

....you theorize Captain realizes poss faulty AS on his side, and engages AP B (good side AS) ...yet AP Stab Trim is still being controlled by the (bad side) FCC A.
What should Captain have done...

I vote for airline disingenuous.

I did indeed mean “flight/maintenance engineer” as mentioned up-thread per avherald, placed onboard as “anticipatory measure”.
....mostly to rebut the notion that FC had not read the log or been...
