Exped

I'm so happy that it is finally gone. It was a stupid mode that I never used. Then I realized that it did not exist on the 330/340 and hoped they would take it off the 320 which they have now done....

Not really! Airbus gives the pilot a choice of a stabilized or a decelerated approach. I always preferred the decelerated approach as it uses less fuel and is much easier on the passengers (less...

FligHT PATH ANGLE

There seems to be some confusion regards height above sea level and height above ground level. The difference would be the threshold crossing height at 50 feet over the threshold.
What is the TCH...

FLIGHT PATH ANGLE

Here is my take on the slope problem.

I do these quite often but only use the Trig function (right angled triangle) and the SIN as this is the angle for slant range DME distance.
Here are the two...

Trim

It's interesting to note that the performance chapter for the A320 bases all the figures on a MAC of 33%. Seems to me that if you start off with a MAC of34%, the fuel burn will cause the MAC to...

I'm quite sick and tired of people who should know better blaming Airbus for this crash. Had there been a different crew flying that night, they would have landed safely. I've said before and will...

RVR/VIS

It's difficult for me, a retired pilot, to understand why all this confusion. We now fly $150 million dollar super jets and pilots have to put up with all this nonsense. Why can't it be simple like...

Relight

My little rule of thumb over the years is "28/28"
You need to below 28000 ft and above 280 Kias for a successful relight. Simple.
Works for most jets. 28/28

Unfortunate. However why do the various controllers have to speak so FAST ??
I always found the FAA controllers rushing their contact with pilots as if there is a race somewhere. That's not...

I will never understand how some people just don't understand the concept of "Auto Trim". Why not learn about it? I found it to be very helpful when I piloted the A320. Never had a problem with it....

Stall presentation

A wonderful presentation by both Airbus and Boeng. It was enlightening, informative and to the point. A big thanks to both companies for doing this.

How about ALL the pilot associations/unions demanding the installation of GPS on ALL aircraft in commercial use. GPS is a life saver, no aircraft should be flying without it. So many pilots, crew and...

Rapoport's so called report is total bunk. The crew did not complete the Unreliable Airspeed Dril which is a memory item and instructs the crew to turn off the A/P, F/D and A/T. I wont waste my time...

I see that the min altitude over the IAF, Zedag, is 4300 feet, yet they cleared down to 2000 ft. or above. What kind of clearance is that? Looks like they should have crossed Zedag at 4300 and then...

My 2 cents worth. First I like the post by Machinbird. When it comes to controls, if it doesn't feel right, land the plane. Had I been flying that DC-9, it would have been put on the ground much...

For me, the big problem with SOPs is when Chief Pilots who think they know more than the manufacturer start fiddling with them. I have seen so many changes to SOPs over the years by management,...
