I orbited a sheep at about 7000ft above Cambridgeshire a number of years ago.

Well, a balloon the shape of a sheep. It had no visible means of propulsion either!

Not sure I'd want to take-off from or land at an airfield with a lighter than air blimp at...

Never heard of his assertion; I'm not sure there was anything you could do with the RB199 to make it perform better at altitude....other than replace it with a better engine.
