Measuring Tool

admikar,

The one “operational” Tiltrotor you are referring (V-22) has flown over 700,000 flight hours in combat and severe environments. The smaller 609 commercial Tiltrotor in development has...

SASless,

No, this is the correct response. Tiltrotors are not helicopters. Just like a Corvette will not haul a half ton of cargo, or a 8 x 4 sheet of plywood, a truck cannot go 0-60 in 4 sec, or...

Unlike Helicopters, Tiltrotors Have Wings

Unpressurized Tiltrotors like the V-22 can fly at 20,000 ft with pilot oxygen. The pressurized 609 does 25,000 ft without pilot oxygen.

Fuel can always be trucked in to remote areas.

A Corvette is not a Half Ton Pickup

SASless,

Why do Tiltrotor trashers always try and dismiss them by comparing them to conventional helicopters?

Corvettes make terrible trucks. And while a V-280 can match the lift of a 40 year...

i’m confused where are you trying to go with this line of thinking? If you fly them in a C-17, you need clearance for the C-17 and use of an airport. A V-280 will be able to fly directly to where it...

Range + Speed = Self Deploy = V-280

With the V-280 speed and range, why would you disassemble it, haul it piece by piece into a C-17, and then reassemble it? Like the V-22 tilt rotor the V-280 can self deployed to its destination any...

Based on your logic the UH-60 should have never replaced the H-1. In fact, no advancement in aviation would ever take place.

Increased speed and range do not come for free. Higher speeds...

John,

As always, there is never a simple answer. As you pointed out, a wing and forward air speed provide lift in addition to the rotor inertia. So depending on 609 weight, pylon angle,...
