The three pilots of AF447 had about 20,000 hours between them. Didn't make much difference. There's more to this game than just hours, I think.

In darkness at altitude over an ocean, possibly in cloud, I suspect there was no visual reference to "look" weird. I suspect that was part of the reason for failing to realise the attitude...
