Try not to think of this as rotation about a point in 3-space. In the static equilibrium case, you can pick any point you want, and the most logical (giving simplest equations) is the rotor hub....

I think the pivot point is the rotor hub. That's why the weight (considered at the CG) can provide an offsetting force.
