Trust me it does. The atomic weight of an element doesn't make it "heavier". Otherwise we'd have lithium floating all about us. NO2 if you use atomic weights is a lot "heavier" than NaF for instance....

You've made two conversions to make one.

Plus not entirely sure what the obsession with weight of "carbon" is, surely...

Correctly balanced equation, but a very bad conclusion. Doesn't quite work like that.
