I think most airlines and airports were expecting numbers to recover to 2019 levels by the mid-2020s. It does seem that this might happen faster though. Quite possibly by 2023 in many cases.

Not in any way unexpected. Long-haul travel to the east in any sort of meaningful numbers will not be returning in 2021. Closest realistic restart date is summer 2022. There are many factors involved...
