From a design point of view, calling MCAS as similar to STS does not seem to be correct. If it were similar, MCAS should have only reduced the rate of movement of the Stabilizer under high AoA...

When MCAS is active, could there be any difference in the control of electric trim from the trim switches at the Captains side...
