Why does aircraft fly at Mach?

Because of density error the ASI is not suitable fro speed indication above 25,000 feet. So the speed of an aircraft is given as a ratio of the TAS to the local speed of sound. Note the difference...

Nobody has provided the correct answer. Planet Basher has explained the question more clearly. "Why is Mach used instead of conventional airspeed?"
