The Real Problem

It seems to me lately that what everyone on this site seems to forget or ignore is what got this flight into the mess in the first place. They went dead on into a thunderstorm. And shortly after,...

Was the aircraft stable

JCJEANT (POST #840

Hi,

Note: NASA does not take off or land when there clouds in the sky.

Automation is great -- IF it is working. When it is all iced up it does not.

Something iced it up. Why was Weather...

JCLEANT

What can prevent him from taking a left bank angle ?
Remember that it is to counter a bank angle to the right ..
So the force pushing the plane to a bank angle to the right should be...

PJ2

No one is saying Boeing vs AirBus. Or pilot qualifications.

Merely that one key element missing from all of the conversations is, that the fact that thunderstorms are not considered a...

Understanding Angle of Attack.

PJ

I too am an old retired Boeing and Airbus pilot. My take is that AoA is important when dealing with very slow flight, i.e. when a Navy pilot has to bring it in on a very short deck with...

Avoid cb's

I’d like to throw in my 2 cents of input.

We have a triply redundant system of pitot tubes which all failed at the same time. Of course using the very same systems.

Which provide info to the...

Stall speed

Hi Sensor

As we all now know from earlier posts, no such thing as "stall speed" its all about AoA.

In all my years in aviation there were no AoA indicators flying mostly all the A/C made in...

ZOOM CLIMB What really happened

Hi Henra

All Valid questions.

“Uncommanded 7000 fpm rate of climb”. Why I think that it was uncommanded.

When a plane is at max cruising altitude (35,000) which the crew noted because...

Restricted control

AlpaZulu

I must disagree with your first sentence. If the auto-trim followed the crew's orders (via the sidestick) then the crew had unrestricted control.

Auto Trim is not a primary flight...

DEVIATE

GarageYears

Yes a slight misrepresentation -- and yes I know CB's are common. But every other flight deviated. Perhaps 447 did not deviate enough. But with all the glitches to me crystal clear...

"your are implying the climb was NOT of the pilots command? I can see nothing to support that assertion. "

Theres nothing to support it either.

Zoom climb

Nobody knows what is going to happen when an a/c enters a thunderstorm. No one.

If a strong enough updraft occurs it could push the plane up at 7000 fpm at the same time sending the nose down...

So many questions about stalls

More:
1. Why did the pitots ice up?
2. Why did the A/P and A/T disconnect?
3. Why the zoom climb without clearance from ATC?
4. Why the sudden reduction of speed at top of climb?
5. Why when at...
