Yeah, I know. Should not have used "protection", I should have said that if you are hand flying visually and select V/S instead of open descend/climb the AT will maintain your selected/managed speed...

Could not agree more. I prefer V/S over open CLB/DES while manually flying with the AT on, because I will at least have some speed protection, but the training department seems to dislike teaching...
