The RN already has pilots trainig with the USN on Super Hornets so a core of a squadron will be ready ( I think there are about twelve of them ). Speedy delivery should not be a problem if the USN...

If they do go down the Super Hornet (or F-35C ) track I would suggest fitting bog standard USN catapults and arrestor gear. They are well proven and probably much cheaper than designing a new system...

More like it had a common engine with the F-15. The YF-17s were also using development engines while the YF-16 had the benift of fully developed F100s.

Maybe someone with the figures to hand can...
