Mode s enhanced transmits selected alt. You don't need full ADS-B.

If the ground station is equipped it will be flagged on the display in amber after a delay.
There used to be a nice video...

If the aircraft is certified to cruise above a certain altitude it has to be fitted with pressure breathing...

The AB procedure is to initiate the descent first and then when established in the descent set the appropriate altitude.

If on oxygen this should work but if not.......

What smacks me as odd is that the aircraft left it's cruise alt and descended in a straight line towards the Alps for 10 minutes without communicating. I'm not yet clear as to when the Mayday was...
