Also to use it requires all ADR's to be switched off. If pitot icing was indeed an issue with the AF the speed in which it all went wrong, I doubt this would have helped.

The only difference is that in an Airbus if you do recognise the problem once in the "indicated" overspeed it will not let you lower the nose until you are in alternate law...
