Deliberate Stalls

Others have already addressed this, however, when a pilot is learning about the stall characteristics of a particular airplane, he should trim for some speed higher than the stall speed in the...

Don't Trim Into A Stall!!!!

One of the first things taught in U.S. Navy flight training is to not trim into a deliberate stall. Yet, the crew let airplane do exactly that. They had sensor failures but, again, they weren't alert...

AoA Data

Please feel free to whack the back of my hand with a ruler if I haven't been paying adequate attention, but I thought two AoA vanes were frozen and we didn't have the data from the third. Where did...

Flight Safety:

No one here is denying that there was pilot/crew error. No one here is denying that faulty sensor (AoA or other) cannot affect the flying qualities of non-FBW aircraft. What I am...

Safety Concerns:

Exactly what I wanted to know when I asked earlier, and never got an answer to, is if there is an AoA readout in the cockpit. Before driving an airplane into a situation where...

Normal for what they were trying to do which is apparently an authorized test under some circumstances. Just at the wrong altitude. There's no argument that they shouldn't have tried it where they...

No Independent Backup Flight Controls

But, in a totally analog aircraft, or an FBW aircraft with a viable alternative system totally unrelated to the primary system, you could kick out the offending system with the punch of one button...

Wild Excursions

Would any pilot of an FBW aircraft, while conducting such a test (with proper authorization and at an appropriate altitude) expect the wild excursions from normal flight that this crew experienced? I...

Please correct me if I'm wrong but presumably the airplane would normally be in Direct Law only because of some kind of failure. If there has been a failure, what assurance does the crew have that...

No Conclusions? No Control?

Almost three months and no conclusions other than the crew conducted slow speed tests at too low an altitude? :ugh:
