Well in 30 to 40 years the F-35 will also need some upgrades and I fear because it is a far more complex aircraft it will be a very expensive one to maintain too.

Some of your points are valid depending on the country.

In Canada's case we will not get the fallouts of the project like the UK and I doubt very much the "unit cost"...

A CTV report from last night now says the cost of buying and maintaining the F-35 will be established at $40B over its lifespan.

I'm not against the Canadian Air Force replacing their ageing F-18...
