The article I read stated he was adjusting speed to prevent overspeed alarms from sounding. I suppose that means he was dialing down airspeed, progressively, to keep the AP from pitching up...

Or that the keypad wasn't functioning properly....

Or that the keypad wasn't functioning properly. Just last week a 10-key keypad, that had worked flawlessly for over 10 years had a malfunction (6 key wouldn't register) leaving me with a locked gate...

i'm still not totally convinced of the suicide angle. Without knowing precisely how long that cockpit door would hold, a suicidal FO in total control of the aircraft would dial in a 3000fpm descent...
