Blame?

It's a nominally French airplane flown by a nominally French airline certified and investigated by a French authority, with nominally French pitot probes that are suspect..

Thanks to mm43 and HN39 for your responses on 8 April.

Altitude and its valid is transmitted on a data bus from the Air Data part of the ADIRU to the transponder. The transponder transmits own altitude on another data bus to the TCAS, and over the air to...

Lightning

Along that line, Lazerdog, nobody every gave a good explanation for the TCAS Fail in the ACARS message. Everybody just dismissed it as due to the pitot fails.

Again, a pitot fail will not affect...

Without regard to 447, I wonder if there hasn't been an overlooked accumulation of ash affecting the bleed holes in pitot probes of planes in the past two months? It would show up as increased speed...

I saw the B-52 pic only recently. Yes, it had a small bit of VS sticking up, but more importantly, #1 and #8 engines were well outboard and could be modulated for yaw stability much better than a...

The CVR/FDR is a fortified box inside the frangible orange box you see on an intact airplane. The pinger, an afterthought, is bolted to the outside of the frangible box. There is no electrical nor...
