Seems common phraseology at UK , particularly regional, units over recent months to use a "climb/decend and maintain flxxx". Have I missed something, pointless instruction?

Think GA works best in a non ATC controlled environment anyway. Breeds better airmanship situational awareness and more consideration for other aviators.

Cavok, no problem clearing through at a level at all, as always 'advise if unable to maintain VMC'.
