Shades are for 'looking' like a pilot.

Wear them on the ground to look like a pilot and pull chicks - but don't let them interfere with Mk1 eyeball phenomenal (underestimated) performance.

BUT ... I thought (particularly in the US) that it is permitted to fly in conditions VFR which are not permitted (or practical) whilst IFR ... the weather does have minimums for IFR normally.
