There is no better subject matter expert than Nathan Higgins at AFT. Everything can be self studied with his text books, however, I suggest attending the flight planning course. Worth every cent.

26 is prime time to start flying, you'll be done your training by 28 and have Airline minimums by 30-32. The more mature you are the more desirable you are for an employer at all levels

It was briefly brought up in my regional airline interview, I was simply asked if I self studied my ATPL subjects or completed an integrated course. Who knows if they even looked at the results.
