The flight path does look like it was maybe a check flight of some sort. I didn't hear anything unusual on the radio. If it was a real issue, then well done to the crew because the landing looked...

Question Global Express XRS device extended from nose door

Really curious what this is extended from the nose of VH-LAW this morning at YSSY. I'm sure I'm showing my lack of internet searching skills, but haven't been able to answer my own question so far.

Has anyone successfully connected a Stratus with a Garmin Aera 760? All online searching suggests that I need a Garmin GDL if I want traffic & AHRS on the Aera, but the latest Australian Flying mag...

Not to nit pick, but the BOM data suggests 8.6mm between 8am and 10am if I'm reading it correctly.

Another sad day and my thoughts go to all those impacted. :ouch:

Thanks AVF. Good advice and I think a lesson for me from this. I was imagining a temptation to takeoff if OVC 040 and 10nm MSA of 3400 where I was not 100% certain of the inbound aircraft position...

Trying to learn

As a PPL (IR training), I find myself thinking hard about how to learn from this horrible event even before a report is completed. (ADSB-in for OzRunways has just been ordered - it can’t hurt)

I’m...

I won't add my novice perspective to the incident itself.

I did find it interesting that the ATSB labelled the type of operation as "Private". I expected to see "Charter". Any thoughts on this?...

PIFR training in a Cirrus - YSBK?

The next step for me is a PIFR and being based where I am, Bankstown is logistically simplest for me. Ideally I'd like to do the PIFR training in a Cirrus but can't see any obvious matches at BK. SFC...

Divided we fall...

All,
I read this thread and others bemoaning the state of GA and offer an observation as a mid-life, new-to-aviation PPL.

I begin by disclosing my admiration for both Dick (as a successful...

How would it work?

I'm trying to think about how it would be done (if there was a requirement for real, non-sim IMC during PPL training).
The thought of a few training aircraft in cloud in the class G training area is...

Propeller tip would be stalled?

The PHAK extract says the hub has a lower AoA than the tip. Tinstaafl's explanation says the hub has a higher AoA than the tip.

I think I need to draw myself a diagram and see if I can make sense...

Two points of view - yours?

:-D
I've stopped the grumbles about training costs. Getting the ok for ownership costs is still a work-in-progress!

I hate it when I can see the other person's point of view when I want desperately to disagree with them.
In this instance, here's the situation. I have an RPL (all endorsements except NAV) and am...
