Anyone who knows..........

Amazing what a clever lawyer and a lay jury can come up with. Anyone who knows how to loop a Hunter safely at low level could tell you the cause of this accident, and the logical legal verdict to the...

On 17 Aug 57, a month after turning 17, I flew solo in a tiger Moth at Thruxton after 6 hours tuition from scratch. No drama, but will never forget the sheer fun of it. Big thrill soloing the Gnat...

I wonder how much right aileron they had on and how much down elevator and how much right rudder when they landed! All respect to the crew and the outcome they achieved, but my instinct tells me...

Groundgripper,

Thanks for contributing. All the overspeed protection built in to the engine relies on it being controlled or even shut down by managing the fuel flow as far as I know. First...

Turbine overspeed protection

VnV,

I have never come across an engine with the sort of turbine overspeed protection device I mused about. There has been no mention of such in the Trent engine, and I feel sure that if it had...

The more I read about the recognition that an uncontained engine failure including a disc breaking up (ie not just shedding blades) is a recognised possibility, the more surprised I am that every...

Would it not be true to say that any part of the turbine, especially a blade, would have been at red heat when it went through the wing and could well have started a fuel fire, albeit one which was...

Looking at photographs of the main wing damage it looks as if the "entry wound" is a lot smaller than the "exit wound". Furthermore the wing damage does not appear to be in the plane of the disc....

My first flight was at age 11 on 2 Aug 1951 in a BOAC Handley Page Hermes IV from Nairobi Eastleigh to London Heathrow. A 21 hour journey stopping to refuel at Khartoum, Cairo and Rome. We flew at...
