Just a thought, it has been mentioned that 4 people didn't travel hence the difference in quoted POB originally. Is it possible that these weren't allowed to board due to weight/endurance...

I know the facts state that the tail of the Air NZ was more or less intact after impact but wasn't the altitude quite drastically different from the AF?
