Having flown other helicopters with fixed floats I would prefer doing an autorotation (take that was the case here) to "water" rather than the ground so that would be my guess as well.

No the AW149 is the military version of the AW189 which is not an extended AW139, some systems similar but has different engines (CT72E) and other different systems installed compared with the AW139

I have a copy of the AW189 OSD (issue Oct 2019...

I have a copy of the AW189 OSD (issue Oct 2019 rev D) and the MDR levels listed in there are E/E/E for pilots converting from AW139-AW189.
I know that Leonardo used to do specific AW189 TR courses...
