What's more is that they were in Tzaneen for the airshow, and as far as I know, the two Albatrosses do a formation show, so the pilots must have been experienced formation pilots.

Thanks for the input. I was merely trying to enquire if their systems could've degraded to backup mode, which in severe turbulance would've been impossible to control, IMHO.

Even on B747-400's, 10 tonnes was regarded as plenty fuel (long haul ops) and 30 mins as minimum in tanks when landing (4000kgs),...
