Six weeks with Mainline (TAA or Ansett), and two weeks with a minor? Airline (EWA, ANSw, MMA). About 80 -100 hours flight deck exposure. Invaluable.

In the 70's and early 80's controllers practised SRA'S - sometimes live, sometimes on (primitive) simulation. A dedicated radar map was required, and if memory serves, ML had one for only one runway...

Around about 1984 'clear pushback' was changed to 'pushback approved'.
The reasons were:
