125km to Malaga airport (80 miles) is not eaxctly down the road from Gibraltar...

Yes but even Stanstead again is London. Unfortunately what is needed for many is the connection reestablished to Manchester. There is no reason now for Monarch to reintroduce this at least.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ryanair flying to Gibraltar as there's a serious shortage of destinations to the UK provided by the present carriers.
