I may be wrong, but I think it is something along the lines of the accomodation not meeting the EBA Agreed requirements- i.e. shared toilet/bathroom facilities etc.

I was lead to believe cadets were on a 3 year VARA contract, then let loose just like every other pilot? If they wanted to move onto jets, it would be via the same pathway as everyone else.

I would've liked to think so too. Unfortunately, I can assure you that at certain NT operators, the correct answer is fly the aircraft back to the maintenance base.
