The rumour is there was some sort of flight control issue. The AAIB believe there was a flight control issue but are having a hard time replicating it.

It boils down to your cruising level. For instance if you leave Ostend and climb to FL60 IFR, as soon as you cross the UK FIR boundary you leave controlled airspace (base of CAS there is FL85 IIRC)....

As the notamed closures of London FIS affect all 3 frequencies, I think it unlikely to be any kind of technical issue. It's probably (like most ATC notamed closures these days) down to staffing.
