I must admit, my understanding was with Alex W, in that it is IRS stabilised to earth horizon, not aircraft pitch...

Hi guys!
Could someone please clarify something for me?
Using your weather radar units in heavy jets, what is the purpose of the tilt function exactly?
I know it effectively moves the radar dish...

Snoop I was under the impression the promulgated range...

I was under the impression the promulgated range of a useable Glideslope signal was 15nm and a localiser was 25nm...?

I take the point that it is a "clearance", and therefore should be complied with, but if there is no specific point to start a climb...when would ATC "expect" me to leave...

Here's a hyperthetical one for you then....

Flying an SID from a UK airport.

You change from tower to departure control.

Flying the SID, there is a block altitude of (say) 5000'
