Extracting pictures from .pps files

On receiving a .pps file by E mail, how can I save an individual picture as a jpeg

Also, is it possible to convert a bitmap to a jpeg ?

Advice please: I need to acquire 3 laptops for my 11, 12 and 13 year old kids, to put an end to the computer wars that now rage 24/7.
I don't want to but "Albert Halls", to satisfy a "garden shed"...
