BA2069 Dec 2000 - Mentally ill pax attempts to take control

Hi all,

I searched the AAIB for any report on this incident and there is nothing. Also not much here on PPRuNe. Does anyone have a link to the official report?

Thanks

Intriguing. I can't locate any formal reports. You may end up having to run the enquiry past the operator and see what they may be able to suggest ?

The captain filed Freedom of Information requests many years later in 2013 to receive an archived CAA review of the incident.

See the link below or search "Request for review of flight BA2069"

I can't seem to upload it but if you follow the FOI responses there is a pdf available of the review: "FOI1114.pdf"

Interesting reading. No mention of aircraft being flown out of limits or any extra maintenance being carried out on landing. Remember how Boeing used to build 'em? :ouch:

It's fascinating to read about pre-9/11 cockpit security; feels like another planet.

It was also how the co-pilot (ex-RAF) flew the recovery. He did an excellent job under very difficult circumstances.

It would be very valuable to know more about how the recovery was flown, ie the profile of the upset and subsequent recovery.

I think I saw the profile at some point but can’t remember any great detail other than (as you can probably work out from the narrative) it was quite a switchback).

In addition if recall it correctly from talking the the copilot a while after the event there was just enough of a pre-dawn horizon visible to help provide an attitude reference…maybe Bergerie1 remembers more of the detail.
