Talk about stressed

What makes us stressed in life?

Please put foward aspects of your life that make or contibute to the feeling of stress.

Please include work and home situations.

What do u do to alleviate this stress.

a day at the office= gym punching bag

too hot=take a swim

overworked=take a break

is there any proof that sex reduces stress??

Im not particularly interested in text book answers, just the things that help put your average guy and girl

STRESS = post from people who come from Almarty and write perfect english

RELIEF = girls in DXB from Kazighstan who can't write and speak perfect english

enjoy :{

Massey058 17th Aug 2004 07:39

People that can't substantiate the drivel they write. But then you take a deep breath and move on with other things.

In situations where you can't just walk away well then you still have to take a deep breath and then start to deal with what is most pressing and important. Never be afraid to ask for help, someone may have had the same problem and be able to help you figure it out.

Taking a nice long drive is always a good way of alleviating stress, if you like driving that is

Quite frankly, I can't remember ever having a particularly stressfull period on the flight deck...very busy, yes, but highly stressful, no.
Having said this, mostly flew long haul, with plenty of fuel available (general company policy...usually) and considered long haul to be a different kettle of fish than short haul/multi sector days.

Now find myself in management, where long days are sometimes the norm...and look like getting longer still.
No problem there either, as stress is not...or does not appear to be a particular concern.
One day at a time.
If the in-box is not emptied...leave it for tomorrow.
The world turns.

What stresses me?

Working moderate traffic and the radar and display maps decide to quit working.

Stress. We don't need no freakin stress!

Delegating a job to a junior mechanic prior to a test flight only to note that you have lost half the engine oil on the left engine and upon opening the window getting doused with hot engine oil. Securing the engine and flying back to base on the other engine over water at night.

Same situation where the junior mechanic forgot to install the nose gear scissors bolt and having to get out and install it while the idiot pilot decides to do an engine run-up while I was in the nose gear compartment. I'll never cum that way again.

Now my most stressful situation is walking down the stairs without falling.

ok so we have equipment failure, personable types that are somewhat immune, company policy and preparedness, great.

When task delegation occurs and u think its getting work out of your hands, it creates stress cos your still responsible to some degree, hence management (of people) incurs stress.

Thanx for the tips guys.

Does sitting on ur backside, long haul stress u?? Not so much if at all psychological but physically?

What about unfavorable crew or working enviroment such as the people at ur office?

Some people might consider that long and busy days are stressful. I merely consider them to be hectic. The answer for me, at the end of the day, is several glasses of Shiraz. Or several strong G/Ts. Or a few flagons of saki... :E Works for me every time! :ok: Sex is a great stress reliever, but I don't get to have very much of that these days... :{

I don't have any stress at the moment because I'm on leave but, strangely enough, am still finding Shiraz, G/T and Saki to be very beneficial... ;)

Stress, for me, is leaving the aircraft at the end of a flight, and re-entering the world of Social Scientists, the politically correct, and subjected to arbitrary and capricious laws invented by goons.

The ultimate de-stressor is entering the aircraft commencing a flight and re-entering the world of the rational, factually correct, and subjected to the real laws of Physics and Mathematics.

Stress is what you make of it - it is merely in the eye of the beholder.

I can honestly say I have NEVER been stressed in the "classical" sense (aggravation, depression, agitation etc). As others said, hard working, and sometimes flabergasted, but never stressed.

I find, like Old Smokey, the "normal" world more of a chore than the relief of flying, be it BAD weather (adrenalin, and makes you THINK more ahead of the aircraft) or fine weather. In Flight situations do NOT call for stress, they call for a calm, inquiring mind firing on all synapses, not some dimwhit flathead panicing and snapping at every siuggestion.

Stress is a state of mental "agitation", whereas boredom is a state of excessive mental relaxation. BOTH are killers, but people handle each mental state in different ways.

Anyway, the most "stressed" I have ever been is for my Australian ATPL examination - as usual in my training, I had not studied except for the last day before the exam. 8 hours of questions ahead, and my mind was FULL of facts, figures, law, met, performance, and nav. I was a little tremulous upon sitting down - my mind was racing to facts and figures, and "What am I going to do if I fail - I don't want to do this again".

The first paper was put in front of me, and the examiner announced to open the paper. Looked down, said to self "THINK, and READ THE F&^KING QUESTION!". Instantly relaxed, and proceeded to churn out answers....

Needless to say, I passed first time around, with an overall mark of 94%!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( I got LESS on my IREX!)

I never was "stressed", more overly concerned.

This reminds me of a one-time Flight Training Manager (incidentally one of the better examples of Management as he had a good sense of humour), who said that, if his in-tray was still looking full on a Friday afternoon, his remedy would be to bundle it all up and post it to himself via the Internal (infernal?) Mail and with any luck it would not re-appear until at least the following Tuesday.

Just seen this, sorry for delay...but thread reminds me of the chief pilot who, on seeing huge pile of job applications late one Friday, threw half of them in the bin, saying "the last thing I need is unlucky pilots"

Well said Old Smokey. To me stress is dealing with my 2 year old son. He has moved into his "terrible two's" stage of his life training and social development course. I have never delt with a more unreasonable person in my entire life. Not even my wife can hold a candle to this little person. Good thing I love him or he might get sold to the highest bidder( just kidding). Flying stressfull? No way. Try staying home for a year and playing at home dad. You will find a whole new respect for women. I don't know how they do it so easily. Now I know why my dad went to work every day even if he was sick!

airline interview = be the interviewer :P

Old Smokey 3rd Sep 2004 02:09

leardrivr,

One of life's biggest stresses is the concern all good parents have for the future of their children. Allow me to assist you with a degree of stress relief. If your 2 year old can maintain his present personality profile, I predict a successful future as C.E.O. of a budget airline.

Actually, what I said in my earlier post was not at all frivolous, that is exactly what 'makes me tick'.

I did miss one question in the original post - "does sex relieve stress ?" I don't know, but the lack of it is certainly most stressful.
