I myself am starting to say to hell with the Cathay pilots imposed ban on new hires. There are too many people out there who need work. I just read a thread below where a Brazilian pilot wanted to know about working there. (he's one many that just lost his job)
Here in Canada there are far too many unemployed pilots. Many have sat on the sidelines waiting for this Cathay situation to be worked out. I really think they have lost.
I have great empathy for those who were fired so unjustly. The problem is that given the current airline economy outside of the far and middle east, there are too many pilots willing to take these jobs.
It is quite noble to give up your spot on the lifeboat for women and children, but human reality shows this rarely happens.
The result? People will take these jobs if they really need to. Those waiting will be left only with their principles, and that won't feed their families.
The Cathay ban will fail with time. I think that time is up.
It is too much a burden to continually ask the unemployed pilots to carry the responsiblity of all the others. I know those at Cathay are donating a small portion of their salary (<5% ??) to support those fired. But what are they really doing now?
If they have as much unity and tenacity as they expect the new hires to have, they should take their actions to a next level.
How about sick outs?... Or captains not allowing the first officers to land, thus expiring their takeoff and landing currencies. I'm sure there are many other things they could do. This would be a step in the right direction.
I'll I'm asking is that the Cathay pilots hold themselves to the same moral barometer that they hold others to.
I hope this can be resolved soon. I have too many qualified friends looking for work. I will support them if they should accept employment at Cathay.

So basically it is your position that a company can do anything it wants to its employees as long as it does it for a long time?

20 or 50 jobs won't do anything to employ the 1000s of unemployed pilots, but the damage that 50 pilots can do by degrading the whole industry can damage 1000s of pilots.

WTG. You will deserve everything you get.

quite a few C3 guys were thoughtful upon applying,Haven't heard of any complaints yet,especially in the freight operations.

If all pilots had an attitude like your we would soon all be working for 30K a year and on duty 6 days a week four weeks a month.
There has to be some respect for work actions or all the carriers worldwide will just code share with the airlines with the cheapest labor contracts.
Then the only jobs available will be low paying ones with terrible work rules.
This job involves enough sacrifices that we all deserve to be well compensated and have an opportunity to spend some time at home with our friends and families.

So it's OK for those of us wanting to join turning down positions when for the last year and a half the AOA have done nothing about solving the situation except taking 49 upgrades. Do as I say, not as I do?

Dumb C is 100% correct...

Unless those imposing the ban are willing to "take it to the next level" as mentioned, they should accept the reality of the situation and keep their drivel to themselves.

They are in no way helping the 49 by their whining and complaining...

Yep, that's the message from the HKAOA. They are willing to risk your career but not their own in the quest to free the 49 (or is it 52?) whose contracts were not renewed.

They talk the talk but want you to walk the walk for them. Too little, too late.

Forgive the ignorance, but what is it exactly that the Cathay Pilots are in debate over? And how is this affecting pilots who want to join Cathay?

I understand that this has been going on for a couple of years hasn't it?

No opinion........but would like to hear what it is all about.
